“Our ambition should be to rule ourselves, the true kingdom for each one of us; and true progress is to know more, and be more, and to do more.”
Oscar Wilde

Love, hate, sorrow and hope. All emotions we face in life and attempt to either combat or embrace. These are also cited as influences contributing to Guile.

‘Guile’ are a Midlands based four piece band or gang whose name is rooted in etymology; their name having origins in witchcraft.

Guile ,n. cunning devices, mischievous deceit.

The band has tirelessly crafted their sound from within the walls of a once booming, but now semi derelict mining complex. A fusion of a psychedelic wall of white noise, crossed illegitimately with country blues narcotic and garage rock n’ roll; a sound Guile can proudly call their own.

‘Guile’s’ live reputation has led to some high profile support slots. ‘The Boxer Rebellion’, ‘The Warlocks’, ‘We are Scientists’, ‘Dead Meadow’, ‘Detroit Social Club’, ‘Scott Matthews’, ‘Howling Bells’, ‘Exit Calm’, ‘The Departure’, iLike Trains’ and ‘Our Mountain’ among others.

Embracing the recording methods of the golden ages of rock and roll Guile embarked on recording part of their debut album in one of only three fully analogue studios in Britain. However, an innovative view on the digital and analogue debate resulted in Guile recording ‘Alone On The West’ using both analogue and digital methods in somewhat polar environments. One of the studios being hid away in the Lancashire hills whilst the other on an industrial estate in Wolverhampton.
Neal Sawyer explains, “Primarily the purpose of a studio is to capture and represent a song. We’re not ready to become fully fledged Luddites just yet as we feel both recording methods have a place in music. We decided to treat each song with a different approach. The group of songs purposely had a plethora of influences so we thought it best to embrace that. Whilst there is a variation in the songs they had to work as an album. Using an analogue studio to record the more blues laden songs and a digital studio for the more lo-fi on the album has hopefully created a body of work with a nice texture.”

In 2011 Guile became the first signing to Birmingham based independent label Salvation Recording Company who will be releasing ‘Deep By The Dockery’ in September 2011. Guile are no longer threatening to be a best kept secret, so whatever we face today it might be we worth having Guile as our soundtrack.

Guile are Neal Sawyer (vocals/guitar), Jon Sawyer (guitar), Adam Shaw (Bass), Gaz Slater (Drums)
